Healthy aging, measured rather than assumed

Georgetown has one of the largest active-retiree populations in Central Texas, and the people we see from Sun City and the surrounding neighbourhoods are not sedentary. They are pickleball players, walkers, gardeners and volunteers who noticed something slipping and want it addressed before it becomes a limitation.

Three numbers tell us most of what we need: lean muscle mass from an InBody scan, an objective balance score from BTrackS force-plate testing, and a short metabolic panel. Together they turn vague concerns about aging into a specific, trackable problem — and each of them can be improved at any age.

The plan that follows is deliberately modest at the start. Protein at breakfast, two strength sessions weekly, a balance drill that takes four minutes, and a walking floor. We add complexity only after the basics have held for a month.

Fall prevention is trainable

A fall is the single event most likely to change an older adult's independence, and balance is one of the most improvable systems in the body. Force-plate testing gives a baseline number instead of a subjective sense of steadiness, and repeat testing shows whether the work is paying off.

We pair balance work with lower-body strength, because the two failures are linked: catching yourself requires both the reaction and the leg strength to complete it. Where medications, inner-ear issues or neuropathy may be contributing, we refer that piece to the appropriate clinician rather than coaching around it.

Clients on Medicare Advantage plans often have SilverSneakers access, which pairs well with coaching — we will build the home and gym work to complement whatever classes you already attend rather than replace them.

What Georgetown clients work on most

  • Muscle preservation

Protein targets and strength work aimed at the lean mass that drives independence.

  • Balance and stability

BTrackS baseline, a short daily drill, and a retest to prove it moved.

  • Blood sugar and lipids

Lab review with a realistic first change, then a retest date on the calendar.

  • Joint-friendly movement

Programming that respects arthritic knees, replacements and prior surgeries.

  • Cognitive and memory concerns

Baseline cognitive screening plus the sleep, movement and social inputs behind it.

  • SilverSneakers coordination

Coaching built around the classes your plan already covers.

Questions

Georgetown wellness coaching FAQs

Distance, Medicare questions, and what coaching looks like for adults over sixty.

How far is the Hutto clinic from Georgetown or Sun City?
Roughly twenty minutes via TX-130 or US-79 to 201 E. Wilco Hwy., Suite 105 in Hutto, with parking directly outside and a step-free entrance.
Does Medicare cover wellness coaching?
Our coaching and testing are self-pay; Medicare does not reimburse them. Many clients use HSA or FSA funds where eligible, and some lab work ordered through Quest bills to insurance separately. We give you the full cost in writing before you commit to anything.
I have arthritis and a knee replacement. Can I still strength train?
Almost always, with the right selection of movements. We program around the joints you have, not the ones a textbook assumes, and coordinate with your orthopedist or physical therapist when there are post-surgical restrictions in place.
Is balance testing uncomfortable or difficult?
No. You stand still on a force plate for a short series of quiet-stance trials while it measures sway. There is nothing to perform and nothing to fail — it takes a few minutes and produces a score we can retest later.
Can my adult children be involved in my plan?
If you want them to be, yes. Family members are welcome at visits and we can share your plan and results with anyone you authorise, which is common when adult children in Georgetown or Austin are helping coordinate care.
